I don’t think our adult children realize how much we love being a part of their lives. Recently, we traveled to Madison, Mississippi to spsend time with my eldest son, Andrew, and his lovely wife, Dusty. One of my favorite elements of our visit was seeing the spontaneous smiles and adoring looks passed between them. It does a mom’s soul good!

My heart is full.

It’s easy to count my blessings while cushioned in a seating area on my son’s front-gated-garden, serenaded by trilling birds, tinkling water features, and a tickling gentle, cool breeze. . . yes, I said cool!

I’m trying to journal my thoughts, but it’s hard to get it all down. Andrew has done an amazingly artistic job of clearing out neglected brush, hardscaping wandering pathways, and carving out trails leading to intentional destinations on the eight acres surrounding his home. For example, the destinations include: a pond framed by native shrubs with an Adirondack chair, sunset-viewing half circle; an orchard of assorted fruits; a hand-hewn arch opening onto a native-planted butterfly garden adorned with antique yard art; a deer observation seating post anchored by a fire pit, a refurbished (in progress) double-decker huge barn snuggled by raised beds with hanging baskets along all the outside barn walls; and a handmade by Andrew, large capacity, outdoor dining table berthed under a canopy of twinkle string lights adorning massive pine trees.

In addition, we’re being completely spoiled!

It feels odd not baking or cooking anything. Dusty said, “this is your vacation and we want you to completely rest!” Oh, the joys of being invited to your children’s homes!

I think we needed this healing break. It’s been a hard summer, yet with each challenge, we’re learning to adjust, to adapt, to remain peaceful, and to plant our feet on faith’s solid ground.

And, when I am priveleged to experience my children’s peace, how can I help but have a full heart.

What makes your heart full?

Don’t you see that children are God’s best gift?
