The days are getting somewhat longer, but the concentration of time spent indoors still threatens our health with new strains of COVID, the annual flu, RSV, and in Texas, winter cedar allergies.

Grandma is always right; to heal chest sickness, drink chicken soup! Why?

1. The steaming broth heals upper respiratory infections by providing warm vapor and hydration to stimulate nasal clearance.

2. The carrots, celery, onions, and garlic are packed with vitamins A and C, both antioxidant warrirs.

3. Chicken, a lean protein strengthens the immune system.

4. Noodles are gentle on the stomach and help you feel rull and satisfied.

5. Fresh herbs like parsley are packed with antioxidents.

“When I was a child and got the croup,

My moma made me chicken soup.

Then as a special treat just for me,

She’d add an animal menagerie!”

In one large pot add: chicken breasts cut into bite size pieces. Dice carrots, celery, and onions. Mash garlic with salt and pepper. Saute vegetables and cubed chicken in butter or oil. Add water and bring to boil. Simmer till vegetables are tender then add the noodles and smmer till noodles are firm, but cooked through.

Are you brave enough to make your own healing, soul-satisfying soup?
