August in Texas is the hottest month of the year. Yesterday, it was 107 in my backyard! Our children and grandchildren have already started back to school, or will do so this week. They will inevitably tumble out of the school bus all hot, sweaty, and exhausted at the end of the day.

Why not surprise them with a pick-me-up of home-made icy fruit slush?!?!

This is an old recipe I got from a friend who served it at one of her pool parties and I just had to have it! All you need to do is dump the ingredients in a large container with an air-tight lid. Stir everything together and freeze. If you cannot find the small frozen orange and lemon juice cans of concentrate, substitute a half gallon each of your choice of real fruit juices.

To serve, allow it to sit out till the texture is softish and slushy and easy to scoop into a wide mouth cup. I prefer eating it with a spoon like a sorbet. This keeps in the freezer and is a nice refreshment for drop-in company on a hot summer day. Enjoy!
