If you’re anything like me, I sometimes am at a loss for ideas as to what to fix for a meal. It’s the end of the week before the grocery store run, and my mind is a blank!
Let your garden speak to you!
I walked out early this morning, as is my habit, to collect the eggs, water the potted plants, fill the bird baths, give the chickens fresh water, and take a general overview of what is happening outside. It was a blissfully cool, in the fifties, morning, so unusual for Texas in September. I filled my apron pockets with the last of the oh, so delicious, cherry tomatoes, trimmed the tops of the end of summer vigorous basil, picked the last of the miktes (armenian cucumbers) and filled my second pocket with tiny okras which I harvest daily and add to a bag in the fridge. Several handfulls make a potfull after a few days!
TA DA!!!! Lunch menu is on the brain: okra cooked Lebanese style with tomatoes, garlic, and onions, caprisi salad with cherry tomatoes, miniature mozzarela balls, and fresh basil drizzled with good olive oil, and sliced mikte for extra chrunch on the side! See, my garden spoke to me as to what to fix for lunch.
I almost forgot! The migrating humming birds slurping up nectar from the feeders as well as the red turk’s cap flowers, reminded me that a little sweet something is always appropriate for dessert. A dainty cup of homemade yogurt drizzled with my husband Tim’s honey finishes off the meal in exemplary fashion. An Arabic saying stating,”a full belly and all is perfection” (Al button milyan, kaif tammam), sounds just right!
How does your garden speak to you?
The Lord will guide you always; he will satisfy your needs in a sunscorched land and will strengthen your frame. You will be like a well watered garden, like a spring whose waters never fail.
