It’s the season for graduations and I’m celebrating two of my granddaughters’ high school graduations!

How has the time flown? It seems like just yesterday I was rocking and reading to them.

One of these precious young ladies had so many honorific ropes hanging around the neck of her graduation robe that she could have made a macrame art piece! The other graduate dove straight from her commencement ceremonies into her softball play-off games. So much hard work, so much discipline, so much fervent joy in accomplishment!

We want to hold them tight, protect them, and fight off any danger to their tender, innocent souls. Yet, we also know that we have to let them go to fly on their own, just like the mama chickadees did to their babies right out my window this morning. She kicked them out of their nest, but kept a watchful eye as they discovered the power in their own wings!

Let’s encourage our children and grandchildren to soar in their adventures with the words from 1 Timothy 4:12. “Don’t let anyone look down on you because you are young, but set an example for others in speech, in conduct, in love, in faith, and in purity.”

How can I best support you, my two sweet graduating grands?

I’ve learned that people will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel.
