I usually bake on impulse when I’m hankering for “sumpin sumpin,” or I’m down and need cheering up. Instead of a scented candle changing my mood, the aromas of baking definitely do the trick!
However, often I don’t have the exact ingredients. I’ll share with you today some quick and easy baking ingredient substitutions.
1. One cup of buttermilk – 1 cup milk plus 2 T vinegar or lemon juice
2. One cup corn syrup – 1 cup white sugar plus 1/4 cup water, bring to a boil and dissolve the sugar completely
3. One cup sour cream – 1 cup yogurt
4. One cup brown sugar – 1 cup white sugar plus 2 T molasses
5. One cup heavy cream – 1 cup milk plus 1/4 c melted butter
6. One cup cake flour – 1 cup all purpose white flour less 2 T, add 2 T corn starch and mix thoroughly
7. Self-rising flour – 2 cups all purpose flour, 3 tsp baking powder, 1/2 tsp salt
What is your excuse for not baking?
The way to a person’s heart is through their tummy.
Take any fruit and make a cobbler.
Bake for them, and they will smile.
Who can resist the smell of baking cinnamon rolls?
There’s magic in yeast, cinnamon, and sugar.
Cream that butter and sugar till it’s light and fluffy.
Bake with love and a pinch of creativity.
