Summer Window Boxes
Its hard to create a summer window box that not only survives, but thrives in the Texas heat! I put my mind and trowel to it when a friend asked me to help her out.

Ivy Tower, Not Ivory Tower
“How did you make that ivy tower?” That’s the question I hear each time someone new walks out my back door. Building this tower is your next project for your spring, summer, and fall!

Hope Garden
I’ve dug up my lawn in a strip along the sidewalk leading up to our front door. Why? It’s my experiment to do a seasonal cutting garden propagated from only seeds.

Transplanting Perennials
It’s early spring and I’m itching to get outside and play in the dirt. I have a cherished sign given to me by a friend that says, “dirt therapy.” For me, there’s no better prescription for chasing away the blues than digging in the moist, rain-drenched spring soil. Not only is it easy to grow, but broccoli is an extraordinary green substitute in a salad.

“Parsley, Sage, Rosemary, and Thyme”
As Simon and Garfunkel commemorate in their top hit seventies song, herbs are a loving, essential ingredient in life.

I Choose Snapdragons
Flowers are perfumed words. They send out messages spanning the emotional spectrum. For centuries, flowers have been gifted with the express intent to relay specific sentiments. This poetry of blooms is especially used during February, the month of love.

Winter Pruning
You would think that the winter months are not the occasion for yard work. That is mostly true except for pruning your shrubs and trees.

Tool Care
How grungy, muddy, and rusty are your garden tools? Do you leave them out in the elements? Are the cutting ones not so sharp anymore? The winter months are the ideal time to take stock of your tools.

Yes, perennial gardens do need care in January with planning, transplanting, watering, fertilizing, pest control, and pruning. Bundle up and enjoy the invigorating gardening experience in the middle of winter.
