It’s warming up outside and I don’t feel like turning the oven on to bake cookies. But, the grands are coming over and they’ll be expecting a treat!

I’m resurrecting an old, old recipe that was making the rounds in the 60s and 70s, I remember mixing these up with a friend as a teenager. However, we mixed it up with plain cheerios instead of oatmeal and made them into bar cookies. Other substitutes for the oats include rice crispies, corn flakes, and even ritz or saltine crackers! Use whatever you have on hand.

In a sauce pan, stir in peanut butter, brown sugar, granulated sugar, salt, vanilla, butter, and whole milk. Bring to a boil and boil for two minutes stirring constantly. Do not skrimp on the time! Remove from heat and add cocoa powder and oats or substitute cereals. Stir thoroughly. Drop by mounds on waxed paper and cool completely.

What creative combination are you going to use?

1 cup smooth peanut butter

3/4 cup packed brown sugar

1/2 cup granulated sugar

1/2 tsp salt

2 tsp vanilla

1/2 cup butter

1/2 cup whole milk

2 1/2 cups oatmeal

1/4 cup cocoa
