Some recipes are worth resurrecting and making on repeat!

Seven layer salad was first made popular in the seventies. However, currently, it has morphed into however many layers you wish, as long as the original seven layers are present.

It’s great for taking as a side to a pot luck or serving as a main dish. When served in a straight sided clear container, it makes quite a pretty presentation with each colorful layer stacked like a display.

Starting from the bottom layer going up, the seven mandatory layers are:

1. Roughly chopped lettuce

2. Thinly sliced red onion

3. Six to eight sliced hard-boiled eggs

4. One 12 oz package of thawed frozen green peas

5. Dressing, one to one ratio of mayonaise and sour cream plus 1/4 cup buttermilk

6. One cup shredded sharp cheddar cheese

7. Crumbled cooked bacon or ham cut into small cubes

Other layers could include seeded  and sliced black olives, chopped tomatoes, chopped peppers (any colors),

What flavor profile would you like to feature in your own seven layer salad?

Eat clean and green!
