Ask the question, “what’s every child’s favorite dish?” Your little ones and big ones will probably answer, “mac and cheese,” right?!?!

I have developed short cuts for this traditional creamy bowl of deliciousness.

In a large microwave safe bowl, place butter, garlic, salt, and onion. Cook on high in the microwave for about 5 minutes till onions are translucent. Add the milk and cubed Velveeta. Microwave on high stirring every 2 minutes. Remove from oven. Stir in the cooked macaroni and 1 cup shredded cheese. At this point you may add diced cooked ham or chicken if desired. Place in a greased casserole and cover with remaining cheese. Bake at 350 till bubbly (about 30 minutes).

4 cups milk

1 stick butter

1 finely chopped onion, or grated if your children are fussy about onions

2 cloves garlic mashed with 2 tsp salt

1 large block Velveeta cheese, cubed

2 cups shredded cheddar cheese

pepper to taste

16 oz or 2 lbs elbow macaroni cooked per pkg directions
