It’s a scientific fact that smells are connected to specific memories. Cinnamon is like that for me. I remember my mom making a huge batch of cookies once a week. Daddy had to have a little something sweet after every meal, we children certainly enjoyed a cookie here and there, and we always had company in and out who were served mom’s sweet creations with the obligatory Arabic coffee.
One of my favorite cookes is the old fashioned, melt in your mouth snicker doodle. It’s a buttery flavored dough rolled in cinnamon and sugar. The smell throws me back to coming home off of the school bus and catching a whif of fresh baked cookies!
Preheat your oven to 375. Cream the butter flavored Crisco, sugar, and eggs till light and fluffy. Add the dry ingredients and mix till smooth. Chill dough for at least one hour. Shape dough into balls and roll in the sugar and cinnamon mixture. Place 2 inches apart on an ungreased baking sheet. Bake for 8 minutes.
When you smell cinnamon, what do you remember?
2 cups butter flavored Crisco
3 cups sugar
4 eggs
5 1/2 cups flour
4 tsp cream of tartar
2 tsp soda
1/2 tsp salt
Roll in mixture of 4 T sugar and 4 tsp cinnamon
Thanks for sharing the recipe. I have one that does not call for chilling the dough, so I’m going to add that step to mine. I remember the smell of sugar cookies in the oven at my grandmother’s. And coffee that my dad started in the kitchen every morning. I’m enjoying this remembering 🙂
