Sometimes, spring arrives and we’re angry. “How dare flowers bloom when I’m experiencing ______!”  You fill in the blank and rest assured that you’re not alone.

When I’ve left my people, my village, my safe place, and I feel alone, let me rest in your heart, my new home town, where the light is always on. “We are not alone, for He is our refuge and I will not be upended.” (Psalms 62:2)

When my marriage is broken, when my children are grown, when my career is over, and I feel alone, show me your purpose, your guiding light. “Though my strength is drained from me, and my vigor disappears (Daniel 10:8), you O Lord have not left me alone, because I always do those things that please you.” (John 8:28)

When my friends don’t answer, when my group dissipates, when my trust dims, and I feel alone, refocus my darkened vision. “I trust in you Lord with all my heart. I do not lean on my own understanding.” (Proverbs 3:5).

When my loved ones pass and I outlive my children, and I feel alone, hug me with your comfort. “The Lord is close to the broken-hearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.” (Psalms 34:18)

All together now, “As was with Moses, so I will be with you, I will not abandon you or leave you alone.” (Joshua 1:5)

Can you share this litany of comfort with someone today?

Precious Lord, take my hand

Lead me on, help me stand

I am tired, I am weak, I am worn

Thro the storm, thro the night,

Lead me on, to the light

Take my hand, precious Lord, lead me home.
