Honor thy Teachers
What a lovely gift I received this week, a call from one of my ex students. Such a delightful, celebratory conversation ensued!
Fruit Pizza
Another oldie but goodie recipe is Fruit Pizza. Enjoy the fruits of a late summer season like berries of all sorts, fresh figs, and grapes in a picturesque dessert that is also quick and easy.
Daystar
While eating breakfast, I like to do the daily newspaper crossword. A clue today was “daystar.”
St. Augustine
I have a long history with St. Augustine Grass! We were flying back home from the US to Lebanon when I was nine and the lowest tread on a stairwell of four sisters, all within five years of each other.
Lighten my Load
I listen to podcasts often while doing mindless tasks around the house and in the garden. NPR is always in rotation.
Emergency Baking Substitutions
I usually bake on impulse when I’m hankering for “sampan sampan,” or I’m down and need cheering up. Instead of a scented candle changing my mood, the aromas of baking definitely do the trick!
Fitting in Where you Don’t Belong
I have a collection of lovely utilitarian baskets for: drying, picnicking, fruit, seed storage, harvesting, and just general storage.
A Secret Garden
Amongst the terraced olive groves, pine-forested hills, and craggy rock outcrops of my childhood, I had many choice “secret gardens” to which I retreated to read or just be alone. Alone-time was quite scarce in our bustling home.
Pants on Fire!
I’m a bit angry today and letting it out on page.
Seventies Seven Layer Salad
Some recipes are worth resurrecting and making on repeat!
